When you think of summer in Salt Lake City, what comes to mind? For local resident Adam Willis, it’s the crack of a baseball bat at a Salt Lake Bees game, the smell of barbecue in the air, and sunset hikes through the Wasatch mountains. We sat down with Adam to talk about what makes Salt Lake summers unforgettable. Whether you’re a longtime resident or considering a move, this story captures the heartbeat of summer in SLC.

Nostalgia at the Ballpark: Salt Lake Bees Baseball

Adam’s love for Salt Lake City summers began early. “I remember going to the Bees with my dad when I was in elementary school. Back then, they were called the Trappers, and the games were held at the old Smithfield ballpark,” he recalled. “Foul balls would hit the roof and roll out into the parking lot. It was a blast.”

Today, that tradition lives on—just with a fresh spin at the new ballpark. According to Adam, “The new ballpark is absolutely amazing. I’ve been to the firework shows and even the drone shows. The Wasatch Front in the background makes it a spectacular setting.”

He adds, “There’s a grassy area where you can buy less expensive tickets, hang out on the lawn, and enjoy some really good food. The hot dogs, chips, barbecue—it all adds to the experience. Everyone at the park is so friendly. It really brings back that feeling of summer from when I was a kid.”

What Is Summer Like in Salt Lake City?

Salt Lake City in the summer is a celebration of nature and neighborhood.

Adam puts it best: “My favorite part of living in Salt Lake is the summers—going up into the mountains, hiking and mountain biking two or three times a week. I’m either out running on the trails or biking with my family. The outdoor time is just so much fun.”

With wildflowers blooming and lakes sparkling in the sun, there’s no shortage of fresh air or freedom. Salt Lake is also incredibly accessible—you’re never more than 15 to 20 minutes from a trailhead, lake, or canyon.

Is Salt Lake City good for outdoor lovers? Absolutely. If you’re into hiking, biking, swimming, trail running, camping, or even just relaxing with a mountain view, Salt Lake summer is hard to beat.

Where Can I Watch Fireworks in Salt Lake City in the Summer?

Catch one of the best shows in town after a Bees game! Adam recommends staying for the fireworks or new drone shows at the Salt Lake Bees stadium. “You see the Wasatch Front lit up in the background—it’s just stunning,” he said.

Bonus tip: Local parks and the Days of ’47 Parade celebrations often include neighborhood firework events.

Are Salt Lake Bees Games Good for Families?

Without a doubt. Bees games are affordable, fun, and laid-back. There’s room for kids to play on the grass, families to picnic, and everyone to enjoy the game in a stress-free, community-driven atmosphere.

“It’s nostalgic, it’s affordable, and it’s just fun to hear the crack of the bat,” Adam shared.
